After graduating from NIDA in 1989, Sancia went on to perform lead roles at the STC, Belvoir St, NIDA Company and The Griffin in Sydney; M.T.C. and the Malthouse in Melbourne and the State Theatre Company in Adelaide. TV highlights during this time included guest roles in “A Country Practice,” “Blue Heelers,” “Janus,” and “Good Guys, Bad Guys”.
In conjunction with Wendy Harmer, Sancia created "What is the Matter with Mary-Jane,” based on Sancia's own life experiences with anorexia nervosa which was produced by STC, who then toured it from their Wharf theatre in 1996 to the Edinburgh Festival and Hong Kong Arts Festival to great critical acclaim. During this time Sancia also wrote a self-help book for sufferers called “Mary-Jane” based on the play, which was published by Random House.
In 1998, she took a hiatus from performing and began to work behind the scenes in TV and radio production. Her credits in this area include ABC TV’s “Spicks and Specks”, Austereo's “Martin/Molloy”, Network Ten’s “The Panel” Fox Footy Channel, the ABC and Lonely Planet TV.
Sancia has recently begun to perform again, and her credits most recently include the lead role MTC’s “Coup d’Etat" as well as a guest appearances in “The Hollowmen”, “City Homicide”” and “We Can be Heroes”. She is currently working as a producer on “World Cup Fever" for SBS TV and Working Dog.
