After graduating from NIDA in 1989, Sancia went on to perform lead roles at the STC, Belvoir St, NIDA Company and The Griffin in Sydney; MTC, and The Playbox in Melbourne and the State Theatre Company in Adelaide. TV highlights during this time included guest roles in “A Country Practice,” “Blue Heelers,” “Janus,” and “Good Guys, Bad Guys”.
In conjunction with Wendy Harmer, Sancia created "What is the Matter with Mary-Jane,” based on Sancia's own life experiences with anorexia nervosa which was first produced by STC, who toured it from their Wharf theatre in 1996 to the Edinburgh Festival and Hong Kong Arts Festival to great critical acclaim. During this time Sancia also wrote a self-help book for sufferers called “Mary-Jane” based on the play, which was published by Random House.
In 1998, she took a hiatus from performing and began to work behind the scenes in TV and radio production. Her credits in this area include Austereo's “Martin/Molloy”, Network Ten’s “The Panel” Fox Footy Channel, the ABC and Lonely Planet TV.
Sancia has recently begun to perform again, and her credits most recently include lead roles in “Shock Jock” - which screened earlier this year on the ABC, as well the lead role in MTC’s “Coup d’Etat”. She has just performed and co-produced a return season of "Mary Jane" for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and is currently working as a producer on "ToughLove" for MMM on the Austereo network.
