The story of Yumi Stynes is the stuff of legends. One of the two now infamous winners of the Channel [V] music reporter search (along with James Mathison), Yumi blew [V] staffers away with an audition that was as unique as she is. One day she’s making ham-and-cheese sandwiches in a Melbourne takeaway; within weeks she’s being snogged by Robbie Williams on the Channel [V]’s (former) live national clip request program, By Demand.
Yes, Yumi Stynes is fearless. She combines a unique and dynamic sense of individual style with a take-no-prisoners approach to live television, throwing an edgy and progressive range of musical taste into the mix.
For this now fully-fledged working girl and mother of two, that aspirant charm has translated beautifully. After a stint co-hosting Channel [V]’s most popular live video request show, Whatuwant with Andrew G, she took to dance floor along side Mike Kerry as the hostess with the mostest on Room 208, Channel [V]’s answer to Solid Gold.
In February 2007, Yumi Stynes joined MAX, having moved over from sister channel – Channel [V] where she began hosting ‘The Know’. Yumi Stynes: “I’m thrilled about the move because it’s like allowing a more grown-up me to shine through. Having worked in music television for seven years, I have an extensive knowledge of classics that’ll be put to good use on MAX. I also really like the idea of being able to nurture ideas – musicians can be fascinating and given the right environment, their thoughts and inspirations can embellish a song and add amazing depths to a viewer’s enjoyment. I think MAX is a place where we really appreciate the art of music.”
In 2010 Yumi joined Network Ten as one of four co-hosts on The Circle "After years of doing live TV on Channel [V] I'm psyched to be back feeling that live energy again, five days a week! It's something you can't fake and a kind of magic excitement fairy dust gets sprinkled over whatever you're doing. I'm also really looking forward to working with my co-hosts. Chemistry is nine tenths of the equation and I can't wait to see how as a team we engage with the viewers and the world at large."
With The Circle now is its second year, Yumi has proven herself to be an intelligent and witty presenter who is respected by viewers, co-hosts and guests alike.
A keen runner, Yumi needs her stamina to balance the year ahead. With her continued role on MAX she's be one of the busiest women in television. |
